| “I find myself in an interesting position having the opportunity to highlight projects, through imagery, that evoke social change in communities all over the world. In the past years, I have traveled to Russia, Burma, Bosnia, Rwanda, Ghana, and soon to Haiti to shoot projects that range from sports to health, micro-finance and education. I have been deeply touched by each of these regions and appreciate them for their natural and cultural traits, and even more importantly, for the character of their people. My impulse is to capture elements which are powerful, yet sometimes difficult to see, and to present them in a “Pop” art- style of photography. I attempt to take images of harsh or tough subjects and expose their softer side, transforming them into images which are beautiful and dignified, rather than horrible and hopeless – without diminishing the crititical state of the subject itself.”
Jordan has been interested in the plight of people living in war-torn countries since her photography career began three years ago. Her prior exhibitions have featured images from Moscow, Rwanda and Bosnia. All the proceeds from Jordan’s past exhibits have gone to causes like Right to Play, Women for Women International and NYU’s Ghana campus. |
